Mr Schaka, Belgian author between Liège and Bangkok: Liège mysteries, true stories and Thailand guides
New release · I Still Breathe
Biography
Mr Schaka is a Belgian author who lives between Liège and Bangkok. In 2020, a pulmonologist gave him five years: interstitial pulmonary fibrosis, followed by rheumatoid arthritis, with no treatment and an annual check-up at Liège University Hospital. He made neither a fight nor a subject of it: simply a fact that stripped away what was superfluous.
His answer was a plane ticket: three months in Thailand, first with Gabriel and then with Chu, from Bangkok to Koh Samui and Isan, where they have dinner on a boat in the middle of a lake. From that journey came The Season of Breath, a true story, funny and luminous.
Then came I Still Breathe, a more intimate testimony: ten chapters, a glossary of thirty-three words and twenty-one sources. He also writes Oscar’s Notebook, four investigations set in Liège, and practical guides to Thailand.
The desire to live fully is not revenge. It is a habit: getting up, counting the steps, stopping, setting off again — and spending what breath remains.
Travel
Mr Schaka lives in Thailand part of the year. Out of that came practical guidebooks (in English), up to date for 2026-2027: entry formalities, transport, neighbourhoods, good places to go, food and the traps to avoid, so you can travel without the stress. Oscar’s Notebook
Four mysteries set in Liège, featuring Victor Lenoir and Oscar Blanc, the castaway alien who never sleeps.
